The Airbus A380 has only one outstanding feature. It carries more people than other aircraft.
It doesn’t fly faster, it isn’t more efficient or safer. It just carries more people. Former CEO Geoff Dixon, who today is sitting pretty thanks to his
twelve million dollar payout, recognised this and used it to leverage premature approval for the Bus.
Earlier today one of these A380s was grounded for a fuel leak, no laughing matter that. A Qantas spokeswoman called it ‘an occasional shakedown’, well shiver me timbers,
I’m just glad I didn’t book on that flight.
Meanwhile, multi millionaire Dixon was probably soaking up the sun somewhere, musing the Bart Simpson adage, ‘I didn’t do it!’

I have travelled in one of these airbuses, and I can say there seemed to be slightly more leg room on the plane, perhaps an inch? Anyway probably not worth the cost of the plane right? Another positive? It meant we got a free seat for our son from Canberra to Perth which combines with the extra inch of leg room, meant we didn’t walk off the plane crippled with dead-leg syndrome. Qantas used to be so safe, you never heard of anything going wrong on a qantas flight – I think profit is now becoming a bigger priority than letting passengers travel safely – perhaps not the best strategy, but then, I have never earned a 12 million dollar payout either
More leg room is of course a plus. I didn’t do my research properly. Was more focused on the ex-CEO receiving twelve million. Guess he won’t be eating dog-food anytime soon.
Hey gig, the airline I mentioned in my Twitter bio was Qantas. I worked there for 28 years, and I can tell you, their best days are gone. Whoever you fly, stay safe .
