The man formerly known as the Mad Monk took one step closer to the Lodge yesterday with his announcement of six months’ paid parental leave. No doubt there will be naysayers who will pooh-pooh his premature announcement, citing that he was only hanging off the skirts of International Women’s Day. However, for those of us able to stand aside from partisan squabbles, he has shown himself to be a leader.
By sidestepping the usual quagmire a leader has to wade through, he has presented Australia with an idea whose time has come. Days will tell if he has the nation on side or the party. I’m sure most Australians would rather he had the nation on side.
Meanwhile, Muggins, on the other side, is waffling on about insulation standards, and as far as I can see, a rock’n'roller’s responsibility. I could be wrong there. The waffle is now so thick that I no longer understand a word he says.

I have to admit, I was sceptical about Abbott. However, as you say, he has shown himself to be a leader. And, more importantly to my way of thinking – a normal person.
He says what HE believes, and quantifies it as a PERSONAL opinion. While that may not be the greatest thing for a would-be PM, it shows a quality that the Milky Bar Kid lacks – a touch of everyman. He (TA) could be the guy you see every morning when you go to get the paper. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and makes no apologies for it.

Unfortunately, KRudd is a bullshitting nerd, who thinks he is both cool and a good operator. He is neither, and that is dangerous. At least Abbott is providing a decent alternative, if he consults more before he puts out policy statements………

gotta agree with you there…
it is dangerous, but he’ll be long gone before the danger hits us, say in five years. Prime Ministering is more than attending conferences and smiling at women’s body image groups…
heck, anyone can do that
